Boards and Commissions

Boards and commissions meet regularly and are comprised of citizens volunteers and council members. Vacancies are filled on an as needed basis. Individuals who serve the Village in this capacity find the experience to be both challenging and rewarding. Volunteer work is an invaluable part of our government process. If you are interested in serving on a Board or Commission, please contact the Mayor’s Office.

CITY BEAUTIFUL COMMISSION

The City Beautiful Commission was created on February 22, 1983 to sponsor, promote, coordinate and encourage both individual and collective beautification efforts by businesses, industry and the general citizenry. The Commission also recommends to Council certain improvements in the appearance of streets, parks, buildings and other property owned by the Village. The Commission meets every 2nd Monday of each month beginning at 7:00 p.m. Members serve a 3-yr term.

PERSONNEL BOARD

The Personnel Board has the power to adopt rules and regulations and establish jurisdiction concerning the selection, promotion, demotion, discipline, and removal of employees within the classified service of Germantown. The Board meets as needed. Members serve a 2-year term

PLANNING COMMISSION

The Planning Commission has the duties of preparing plans and reports relative to the overall planning of the growth, development and redevelopment of Germantown. The Commission also oversees the uses of all parcels within Germantown as well as assisting the Council to determine residential, commercial and industrial district boundaries. The Commission meets every 4th Wednesday of each month. Members serve a 4-yr term.

BOARD OF ZONING APPEALS (BZA)

The Board of Zoning Appeals has the power to conduct administrative reviews upon the appeal of any order, requirement, decision or determination made by the Zoning Compliance Officer. The BZA can also determine similar uses for property, as well as hold public hearings to determine variances to the Zoning Code of Germantown. The BZA meets every 2nd Monday of each month. Members serve a 4-yr term

BOARD OF TAX APPEALS

The Board of Tax Appeals has the power to hear any appeals concerning rulings from the Finance Director in regards to taxation issues. Members serve a 3-yr term.

SWIMMING POOL BOARD

The Swimming Pool Board was created to assist the Village Administration with the operation and capital improvement of the Germantown Municipal Pool. The Pool Board is advisory in nature, and meets every 3rd Tuesday of each month. Members serve a 3-yr term.

PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD

The Parks and Recreation Board was created to assist the Village Administration in the development and coordination of recreational programs, as well as to help adopt rules and regulations in the Germantown parks system. The Board is advisory in nature and makes recommendations to the Council regarding the acquisition, development, maintenance and operation of parks, playgrounds, recreational facilities and programs within Germantown. The Board meets every 1st Wednesday of each month. Members serve a 5-yr term.
