The City of Germantown has a mandatory municipal income tax filing requirement, regardless of employment status. That means all persons residing within the City of Germantown corporate limits must file an income tax return with the Income Tax Department.
The current City of Germantown income tax rate is 1.25%, with partial credit given for income taxes paid to other municipalities. The Village will allow you to take a partial credit of 75% of up to 1.25% of the gross income earned in other municipalities. In other words, if you work in another city or village where the income tax rate is 1.25% or less, you may take credit for 75% of the total amount of income taxes paid to that municipality.
However, if you work where the income tax rate is greater than 1.25%, you must multiply your gross income by 1.25%, and you may then take credit for 75% of that amount. If you live in the City of Germantown but work outside our corporate limits, then one of the following three examples applies to you:
$20,000.00 x 1.25% = $250.00
$ 200.00 x 75% = (-) $150.00
$100.00 (due to the City of Germantown)
$20,000.00 x 1.25% = $250.00
$ 250.00 x 75% = (-) $187.50
$62.50 (due to the City of Germantown)
$20,000.00 x 1.25% = $250.00 (due to the City of Germantown)
